The European Law and Governance Professor talks about the EU’s strategic position in the world, EU enlargement and euroscepticism.
With the fall semester 2023, the Hertie School’s Jacques Delors Centre welcomed European Law and Governance Professor Mark Dawson as Co-Director. Before his journey from Professor to Co-Director at the Hertie School, Dawson was an Assistant Professor at Maastricht University. He has also held visiting positions at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), the University of Wisconsin and Harvard Kennedy School. Mark Dawson will guide the academic arm of the centre, helping to further the goals of the Jacques Delors Centre in tandem with Hertie School professors, post-doctoral researchers, research fellows and PhD students affiliated with the centre.
We discussed with Dawson the significance of the Jacques Delors Centre, the centre's role in public discourse, and his journey from Scotland to Berlin. We also talked about the challenges that the EU will face in the coming years, such as navigating the EU’s strategic role in the world, EU enlargement and euroscepticism.
