In an interview with Bayerischer Rundfunk, Policy Fellow Thu Nguyen speaks with Jakob Mayr about Macron's next steps as Council president in the ongoing rule of law conflict.
During the French council presidency, Macron has an opportunity as president to take substantive action on the rule of law conflict. In fact, Nguyen says that the Commission "can not act alone" on this issue, instead, France should work to bring other EU member states on board to find a common solution. However, simply continuing the dialogue between parties will not be enough. According to Nguyen, the role of dialogue in this conflict has been "exhausted."
