Green growth: Necessity or pipe dream?

Everybody wants to fight climate change. But controversy still exists on how to structure our economic system to stand a chance: On one hand, economic growth drives innovation and likely is the world’s best shot at rolling out emission-free technologies at scale. At the same time, growth and carbon emissions have been tightly linked in the past – raising the question whether expanding our economies will exacerbate the problem rather than solve it. On 28 February, Hertie-alumnus Alessio Terzi (EU Commission) will discuss his new book “Growth for Good,” with Professor for Pluralist Economics Svenja Flechtner (University Siegen), and deep-dive into a fundamental question: Can capitalism be enrolled in the fight against climate catastrophe?
