Since 1/12/2019, Michael Hager has been Head of Cabinet of the Executive Vice-President V. Dombrovskis, responsible for “An Economy that works for People” and Commissioner for trade.
From March 2013 to November 2019, he had been Head of Cabinet of Günther H. Oettinger, EU Commissioner (for budget and human resources/ digital economy and society/ energy), and previously a member of Oettinger's cabinet since 2010.
From 2008 to 2010 he was a member of the cabinet of Margot Wallström, Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for Institutional Relations and Communication. He joined the European Commission in 2004 and was initially Parliamentary Affairs Coordinator in the Directorate-General for Internal Market, later Assistant to the Director-General.
Before joining the European Commission, he worked as an assistant to MEP Brigitte Langenhagen from 1999 to 2004. Michael Hager holds a master's degree in history, politics and Japanese studies from the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen.
