Christian Freudlsperger is a postdoctoral researcher at the Hertie School and Research Coordinator at the Jacques Delors Centre. He holds a PhD from the Berlin Graduate School for Transnational Studies (BTS), a Master's degree from Sciences Po, and a Bachelor of Arts from Ludwig Maximilians University. He was also a visiting researcher at the European University Institute and the University of Ottawa. His doctoral research explored the role of sub-federal actors in international trade liberalisation. A monograph based on his thesis, entitled Trade Policy in Multilevel Government: Organizing Openness, is currently forthcoming with Oxford University Press. Parts of his PhD research were also published in the Journal of European Public Policy. He is particularly interested in comparative federalism's contribution to EU studies. Currently, he is working on a research project on differentiated integration in the EU and asymmetrical federalism in the United States, Canada and Switzerland. In addition, he is investigating the post-Maastricht development of German EU policy.
