 ger position than they were a decade ago: they are better capitalised\, mo
 re profitable\,  and increasingly well regarded by investors. Yet banking 
 competitiveness has moved to the centre of the European policy debate. In 
 July\,  the European Commission published its long-awaited report on the c
 ompetitiveness of the European banking sector\, reigniting discussions abo
 ut the future of banking in Europe.\nAt the same time\, Europe faces unpre
 cedented investment needs to finance the green transition\, digitalisation
 \, and defence. In which of these areas can banks play a role? What change
 s are needed to get European banks ready for the task ahead?  \nJoin us fo
 r a discussion with Frank Elderson on the role of banks in financing Europ
 e's future\, the case for simplifying banking regulation and supervision\,
  and the importance of deeper integration of Europe's banking markets. The
  conversation will also explore what these debates mean for Germany's uniq
 ue banking landscape and the future of the Banking Union.\nThe discussion
