Towards a Clean Industrial Deal: Can the EU Transform and Compete?

The European Union’s upcoming Clean Industrial Deal is set to become a cornerstone of the next European Commission’s economic agenda. At its core lies a dual ambition: to strengthen Europe’s competitiveness in the industries of the future, and to support its industrial base through the transition to a decarbonised economy.

Both goals, however, are under mounting pressure - from the outside through aggressive industrial strategies from third countries and especially China and intensifying global trade tensions; and from within, as political backlash against the green transition grows across parts of the  European Union.

Together with our partners from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and Kiel Institute for the World Economy (lfW Kiel) we are, therefore, thrilled to invite you to a high-level conversation with Teresa Ribera, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, to explore what it will take to implement an effective and future-proof industrial strategy for Europe.

Key topics of discussion:

• How can the EU defend its industrial interests on the global stage?

• What does a modern and assertive industrial policy look like?

• How should responsibilities be balanced between Brussels and member states?

• What role must the next German government play to support the Clean Industrial Deal?

Agenda:

  • 17:30 – 18:00 | Registration
  • 18:00 – 18:15 | Welcome by Cornelia Woll, President, Hertie School and Nicola Brandt, Head of OECD Berlin Centre
  • 18:15 – 18:45 | Keynote
  • 18:45 – 19:15 | Discussion

Moderation:
Nils Redeker, Deputy Director, Jacques Delors Centre

We look forward to welcoming you to what promises to be a timely and forward-looking discussion. The event will be held in English and is co-organised by the Jacques Delors Centre, the OECD and the Kiel Institut für Weltwirtschaft.
