Before the working day begins, there will once again be a short input on a current EU topic. Start the day with us, fresh croissants and coffee. On-site only, seats are limited.
Europe's energy-intensive industries are under massive pressure: high energy prices, sluggish decarbonisation and a difficult international environment are jeopardising locations and investments. Plant closures, such as the current one at Thyssenkrupp in Germany, are fuelling concerns about widespread deindustrialisation.
The EU Commission wants to counteract this with the Clean Industrial Deal. Lower energy costs, targeted subsidies and new lead markets are planned. However, it remains to be seen whether the measures are sufficient to ensure a climate-friendly and competitive industrial policy.
How can the EU prepare its industry for the green age without losing economic substance? And what role do national measures such as the industrial electricity price planned by Germany play in this?
At the EU to go breakfast on 26 June Philipp Jäger, Senior Policy Fellow for European climate and economic policy and Dr Philipp Verpoort, PostDoc for Industrial Transformation at the Potsdam-Institute for Climate Impact Research, will present their assessments and recommendations.
The format: the topics and analyses will be presented in 20 minutes, followed by a ten-minute discussion. The event ends at 9.00 a.m. after just 30 minutes.
