One week after the European elections, the early consensus on the EU’s top jobs proved to be more complicated. The four top positions of President of the European Commission, President of the European Council, President of the European Parliament and High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy still need to be assigned in the “EU compromise machine.”
The deputy director of the Jacques Delors Centre stresses that despite the European-wide shift to the right, which will have an enormous impact on European politics, centre parties managed to retain a majority in the European Parliament.
