Europe.Table - Surprisingly liberal EU economic governance

Following the recent release of the coalition agreement for the German Ampelkoalition, Deputy Director Lucas Guttenberg speaks on the potential implications of the document on economic governance in the EU. 

Even though the coalition agreement has some limits, Lucas Guttenberg emphasizes that "the fact that the Ampelkoalition is explicitly ready to further develop the fiscal rules goes beyond the exploratory paper and is very good news: this opens up the possibility of finally adapting fiscal rules to reality" and goes on to say that, one potential limitation, the lack of a clear position on Next Generation EU (NGEU), is also not necessarily a major hurdle: "the fact that the NGEU is limited in amount and scope is a correct and trivial statement: the contract does not specify a possible follow-up instrument."
