Podcast EU to go – The new German government: What does Europe expect?

To mark the 50th episode of the EU to go podcast, Thu Nguyen joins Katarina Barley, Vice-President of the European Parliament, and Johannes Lindner in front of a live audience at the Hertie School to look back on the past five podcast years and Europe's expectations of the new German government.

Germany is under pressure – economically, in terms of security policy and in terms of European cooperation. Can the new German government under Friedrich Merz deliver what Europe needs? Thu Nguyen discusses this question with Johannes Lindner, Co-Director of the Jacques Delors Centre, and a special guest: Katarina Barley, Vice-President of the European Parliament.

On the occasion of the 50th episode of the EU to go podcast, the SPD chief negotiator for Europe talks about the coalition negotiations in front of a live audience at the Hertie School and explains what the EU expects from the new government and what it can expect. He will also discuss the German perspective on the EU's most important future issues: How will Germany position itself on the migration debate in the future? Where are the unanswered questions when it comes to European competitiveness or the EU budget? How will the new government stand up for the rule of law? And last but not least: How can we deal with the rise of anti-democratic forces – in politics, but also in society and in everyday life?
