The fifth Franco-German research prize will be given to exceptional scholars aged 40 and younger whose work contributes to solving the future challenges of Europe.
Berlin, 21 January 2026. European Union scholars are again invited to submit their works from the social sciences for the Henrik Enderlein Prize. The research prize in honour of the Hertie School’s late President is aimed at young researchers aged 40 or younger whose work demonstrates scholarly excellence and a practical contribution to public debate on the future of Europe. It is endowed with 10,000 euros in total and was first awarded in 2022. Applications will be accepted until 20 March 2026.

The Henrik Enderlein Prize is jointly awarded by the Hertie School, Sciences Po, the German Federal Foreign Office and the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. This year’s winner will be recognised during a festive event in Berlin this summer. Enderlein, who passed away in 2022, was a graduate of Sciences Po and the founding director of the Jacques Delors Centre.
Past winners of the prize include international relations and environmental scholar Alice Vadrot (University of Vienna); economist Stefanie Stantcheva (Harvard University); political scientist Tarik Abou-Chadi (University of Oxford); legal scholar Vladislava Stoyanova (Lund University); political economist and sociologist Alexandros Kentikelenis (Bocconi University); and political scientist Filip Kostelka (European University Institute).
Award highlighting the impact of academic research
“The Henrik Enderlein Prize is being awarded for the fifth time this year, honouring research that connects politics and civil society in Europe. By continuing this tradition, we commemorate the late President of the Hertie School, Henrik Enderlein, who was committed to a strong, peaceful and forward-looking Europe,” says Cornelia Woll, Professor of International Political Economy and President of the Hertie School.
International jury decides on the winner
A high-calibre nine-member jury chaired by Hertie School President Cornelia Woll will decide on the winner. Jury members include:

- Jakob Vogel, Professor of History at Sciences Po
- Paul-André Rosental, Scientific Director at Sciences Po
- Thurid Hustedt, Professor of Public Administration and Management and Dean of Graduate Programmes at the Hertie School
- Johanna Mair, Professor of Organisation, Strategy and Leadership at the Hertie School and Director of the Florence School of Transnational Governance (STG) at the European University Institute
- Anja Wehler-Schöck, Member of the Editorial Board at Tagesspiegel
- Caroline Soder, Deputy Commissioner for Franco-German Cooperation at the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs
- Quentin Jalla, Deputy Commissioner for Franco-German Cooperation at the German Federal Foreign Office
