A Conversation with Pascal Lamy

In an interview with the Groupe d’études géopolitiques, Pascal Lamy, coordinator of the Jacques Delors network (Paris, Berlin, Brussels), spoke on strategic autonomy, European sovereignty and integration.

In the interview, Pascal Lamy focused on the idea that the EU remains a 'geo-economic' rather than 'geopolitical' entity, with a lack of political community in many areas. In order to achieve strategic autonomy, Europe will need to create a middle ground between the US and China, define its common interests, and continue to develop 'the anthropology of European integration'. All of these goals will require futher European integration to achieve. However, this integration will not occur without ending the historical narratives of differentiation within Europe.
