Anna Lührmann is Minister of State for European Affairs and Climate at the German Federal Foreign Office. She is also a Member of the Bundestag for the Green party. She took both positions in 2021. Anna Lührmann was already elected to the parliament from 2002 to 2009. During this time she started her academic career attaining a Bachelor’s degree in politics and organization from the FernUniversität Hagen. In 2009, she moved to Sudan where she graduated with a Master's degree in gender and peace studies at Ahfad University. Subsequently, she provided consultation services to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as well as electoral and parliamentary consultation in the country. At the Humbolt University Berlin, she researched the promotion of democracy and received her doctorate. Up until 2021, she worked as an Assistant Professor at the Varieties of Democracy Institute of Gothenburg, Sweden.
