Gunther Krichbaum has been serving as Minister of State for Europe at the German Federal Foreign Office since May 2025 and is the Federal Government Commissioner for Franco-German Cooperation. Since 2002, he has been a member of the German Bundestag, where he has held several key positions in European policy, including Chairman of the Committee on European Union Affairs from 2007 to 2021 and, since 2021, European Policy Spokesperson of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group.
Krichbaum has consistently been directly elected to the Bundestag for the Pforzheim constituency, underscoring his strong electoral base and long-standing political continuity. His parliamentary work has been defined by a sustained focus on European integration, institutional cooperation, and bilateral relations, particularly between Germany and France.
In addition to his parliamentary roles, he has been actively engaged in fostering European dialogue and cooperation, serving as Chairman of the German-Romanian Forum since 2018 and as a member of the Franco-German Parliamentary Assembly from 2019 to 2025. His contributions to European cooperation have been recognised internationally, including honours from France, the Netherlands, Romania, and Austria.
