Notwithstanding the delays in the submission of national recovery plans, the Recovery Fund is picking up speed. Policy Fellow Thu Nguyen explains the next steps in an interview with EU Observer.
The European Commission needs to be a "credible actor" and apply strict criteria in its assessment of national plans, she argues. As regards member states' approval of the Commission’s recommendation, Thu Nguyen is confident that even though "some member states will have a very close look at some other member states' plans”, it is unlikely that they would clog the process as “several member states need to flex their muscles at the same time if they want to stop one country from receiving funds.”
